About the project

The development concept for the Verkh-Isetsky Pond waterfront encompasses the Maly and Bolshoy Konny peninsulas and Baran Island. The project aims to create a sustainable urban environment, minimize vehicular traffic, and form comfortable public spaces with a harmonious blend of nature and architecture.

The waterfront area will be pedestrian-only, enhancing accessibility and appeal for residents and tourists.

Lighting master plan

A key feature of the project is the lighting master plan, which serves as an independent tool for shaping the environment.

The lighting serves several functions simultaneously:

  1. Navigation — a system of light beacons marks entrances, activity nodes, and key routes;

  2. Spatial — light shapes the framework of public space after dark;

  3. Emotional — decorative illumination creates a "shimmering" waterfront image referencing the energy theme.

The lighting master plan was developed with consideration for the impact of different light spectra on birds, insects, and aquatic life. The lighting preserves the ecosystem and supports the territory's nocturnal natural life.

Sustainability

The project is integrated into Yekaterinburg's existing blue-green framework and aims to restore the territory's ecological balance.

Key environmental solutions:

  1. surface runoff management: rain gardens, local treatment facilities, bioplateau, meandering of the Shirokaya River channel and island formation;

  2. minimal bank reinforcement with concrete — hard surfaces are used only where functionally necessary (piers, yacht club, aquatic wellness center area);

  1. use of native aquatic and riparian plants adapted to the Ural climate;

  2. creation of "quiet zones" — micro-reserves with restricted access;

  3. establishment of a fruit corridor for bird migration;

  4. construction of an ecoduct — a green corridor beneath the bridge ensuring ecological connectivity.
