Design concept
The master plan for Sochi's central embankment is based on the principles of forward-thinking design and the aspiration to create a world-class waterfront capable of ensuring a sustainable future in harmony with the coastal environment.
The design concept is rooted in transforming the embankment from an alienating mega-space into a system of multi-scale spaces that respond to the demand for multifunctionality and reflect the city's local identity.

Waterfront zoning
The master plan divides the territory into three belts that transition into one another without sharp boundaries: a cultural and park zone at the western end, a ring-shaped lagoon in the center, and a residential and business belt that continues the urban fabric to the east.
Each belt maintains its own scale from single-story pavilions by the sea to mid-rise blocks of the Riviera yet all are united by a shared coastal promenade.

Cultural cluster and eco-park
Creative workshops, co-working spaces, and three pavilions for EXPO events around a pine urban park — adjacent to the city forest and an educational ecological pavilion that combines a mini-museum and a laboratory of the Engineering and Environmental Faculty of SSU.

Sochi Beach
The existing breakwaters, inspired by the history of the four Sochi forts of 1838, have been transformed into a chain of sheltered islands — thus the Great Sochi Circle was born, a ring-shaped lagoon and a new symbol of the waterfront. Inside the circle lies calm water and a sandy beach, while the islands bear the brunt of storms on the outside.
